Welcome

Welcome to our blog. Our family has recently embarked on an incredible journey. We have moved from our small town in the United States to a large city in Southeast Asia. The adjustments are going to be many and we want to share our adventure with you. We have been led to this country with a two fold purpose. Kenny will begin honing his photography skills and put them to work. And of course, as followers of Chri$t, we pray that we will be salt and light to those we encounter and build relationships with along the way. We hope you enjoy our journey and come back often!

Local D.O.T.

As most of you already know, we have two seasons here… Rainy and Dry. This is the Rainy season. When it rains it banjir (pours!!!). So the roads get these huge pot holes in them. They don't come and fix them right away. Not even in four or five months. They come when they are ready. So today… they were ready.

After I saw how they had to repair the holes, I don't blame them for wanting to take their time getting to it.

Here they are heating the tar right beside the road where cars had to drive around he flames licking their paint jobs. When it gets hot enough, they dip it into the smaller bucket with the flames in it. So I decided to stop and take some pictures. Nothing like a white guy standing on the side of the road taking pictures of people working… What are these Americans thinking of?

After the tar cools a little bit (no flames screaming out of the top), the guy carries the bucket (by hand, mind you)to start dipping the hot tar out, and yes, he's wearing sweat pants and a hoodie and, it's about 80- 90 degrees outside along with that boiling tar.
This little contraption is a tin can with holes punched into the bottom so the tar can run out. The guy to the right put some small rocks in the hole first then the tar gets sprinkled over them.
Unfortunately, as the rainy season continues, it will eventually wash the repair out again. I guess this is job security.

This makes me think of some people who think they are repairing the void found in their lives with "things". They try and fill it with everything the world has to offer... new house, new car, new job, new husband or wife, more money, things, things, things! So when a storm comes into their lives it washes the hole out again and the void returns.

What they fail to realize is Chr!st is the only thing that can fill that void for good. He will never be washed away by any storm of life. He not only fills the void, he heals it.
