Welcome

Welcome to our blog. Our family has recently embarked on an incredible journey. We have moved from our small town in the United States to a large city in Southeast Asia. The adjustments are going to be many and we want to share our adventure with you. We have been led to this country with a two fold purpose. Kenny will begin honing his photography skills and put them to work. And of course, as followers of Chri$t, we pray that we will be salt and light to those we encounter and build relationships with along the way. We hope you enjoy our journey and come back often!

Spring Break at the Beach

This week is "Spring" Break for the kids, of course here they call it semester break because we don't have a spring. The first day was spent around the house taking care of automobile issues so we would be ready for the two hour drive to the beach the next day. We invited some friends to go with us and we had a blast!
When we first got there the tide was in, so we had the opportunity to actually play in some waves (a first in a long time). Even thought the waves were relatively small, they were extremely powerful. I couldn't imagine having to contend with the big waves out past the rocks!
This is the first beach we visited when we moved here over a year ago. It is called Balekambang. There is a large Hindu temple on a small island that you can walk to over this bridge. The first time the kids walked across they got a surprise when the waves broke on the rock beside the bridge and splashed them. After that, it became a game!
As the tide started going out, it was easier to sit and play in the shallow water. Here is Ethan with one of his best friends.
This is what the beach looked like when we left. This is the island with the temple that you can see in the top right corner of the first picture. The tide goes all the way out past the rocky coral to the big breaks past the island. We had to search for pockets of water where we could rinse off some of the sand. It was amazing to see how powerful and deep the water was when we first got there compared to how far out the water went only six hours later. After the recent tsunami in Japan, it really is amazing how our God keeps the waters at bay every day and does not allow waves to pass a certain place. He is so amazing and His creation is incredible!
So, we had a great day with friends. It was a long day and an exhausting day, but we loved every minute of it! On the way home, Kenna and our friend's daughter held their head out the window and shouted "Mongoh-mongoh" (which means hello or pardon me in our island's language…it is a huge compliment and sign of respect to be able to speak even a little in this language). The people in the villages we passed through had some of the greatest reactions and the girls had a blast!

YAY!!! I was able to upload a video. The ride to the beach may be long and rough, but the view certainly is beautiful!
